Shaping the Next Generation: How to Raise Christlike Leaders

Investing in the Next Generation: A Call for Us All

While this message may seem directed at parents, raising children into Christlike adults is a shared responsibility. Whether you’re a grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher, mentor, or friend, your role in the lives of the young people around you is significant. God calls each of us to invest in the next generation, modelling faith and values that inspire them to live with Kingdom purpose and love.

We believe that God is stirring something mighty in this season, and He’s inviting all of us to partner with Him in this work.

Parenting—and influencing—isn’t just about surviving each day. It’s about shaping the kind of adults children will one day become. We have the extraordinary privilege of guiding them to live as confident, Christlike individuals who know and embrace their God-given identity.

So, where do we begin?

1. Start with Prayer

Begin by asking God how you can be part of the work He’s doing in this generation. Pray for the young people in our church, our town, and your sphere of influence. Ask God to give you insight, creativity, and a heart for those He’s calling you to encourage.

Join one of our many prayer groups as we seek God for revival in families.

2. Be Intentional

Take time to build meaningful relationships with the younger generation. Whether it’s having a conversation with a teenager after church, mentoring a student, or simply encouraging a child with kind words, your presence makes a difference.

1 Thessalonians 5:11  "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

This verse emphasises the importance of intentional encouragement and building meaningful relationships, which aligns with the message of investing in the younger generation.

3. Partner with the Church

There are so many ways to get involved in what God is doing at Melkbos Fellowship Church. From joining the children’s or youth ministry to supporting events or sharing your skills, your partnership is invaluable.

4. Model Faith in Action

Our lives are the most powerful message we share. Let young people see you living out your faith in practical, Spirit-led ways. Demonstrate a love for God’s Word, a commitment to prayer, and a heart for worship.

5. Trust God’s Leading

God equips those He calls. You may feel uncertain or unprepared, but when you step out in faith, He will guide and strengthen you. Trust that He has a unique role for you in influencing this generation.

This February, we encourage you to ask God how He wants to use you to shape the future. Whether it’s through small acts of kindness, consistent prayer, or diving into a serving role, know that your investment will bear eternal fruit. Together, as a church family, let’s join in the mighty work God is doing in our youth, teens, and families.

May this be a season where we not only see God move in power but also where we answer His call to partner with Him in raising a generation that lives boldly for His Kingdom?
